This mite help!
Picture the scene. A cold day. In the garden, your grandmother or mother
attacking a mattress with a beater. What on earth was she doing?
|
|
In fact, it was more than just releasing pent-up aggression. The practice
was a vital one for ridding the mattress of dust mites and their droppings –
the cold killed the mites and the beating cleaned the mattress of detritus.
Do we do that now? No, for a variety of reasons. Modern mattresses are heavy
and unwieldy. We don’t have the time. Maybe we’ve even forgotten the purpose
of the domestic rite. But the truth is it’s more necessary now than ever –
the modern, hermetically-sealed house is an even better breeding ground for
dust mites, bacteria, viruses and other filthy residues in our beds.
That’s why mattress cleaning is more critical than ever.
And here’s an easy way of doing it - The Mattress Doctor service. This uses
a scientifically proven system, originally developed in Europe in the early
1980s and has been used in homes, hospitals and hotels for over fifteen
years. It both eliminates the cause and cleans the mattress hygienically
without the use of chemicals. Using the patented ‘Mite Alert’ system
developed by Acaris, Europe’s leading specialists in allergy testing, it can
also identify and treat other areas in a home where dust mites may be
causing problems.
It’s a three stage process:
* The Mattress Doctor HF Power Cleaner applies a combination of treatments
simultaneously to pulverise and loosen particles of dust, dirt and excrement
in the mattress. These are then eliminated with a high power vacuum with a
special HEPA filter which traps 99.97% of everything it collects.
* The Mattress Doctor UVC Radiation Sterilising Unit sterilises the mattress
killing bacteria, viruses and spores.
* The Mattress Doctor Hygiene Spray acts as an antibacterial, insect
repellent and also slows down the reproductive rate of any dust mites that
enter the substrate after treatment. Used weekly by the client, this will
reduce the frequency that a mattress needs to be cleaned to about twice a
year.
And prices start from as low as £25.

inBalance Feedback:
We've had our mattresses cleaned and were horrified at the amount of dust etc that was removed. We have noticed my husband's coughing has improved since. We'll definitely have the mattress cleaned again, within six months and we're seriously considering having our pillows, duvets, cushions and rugs cleaned, which can all be done in situ at home.
PS The cleaning was finished off with a Mattress Hygiene Spray. It controls the proliferation of Dust Mites, is non-toxic, hypoallergenic and non-hazardous it's made from natural ingredients and is organic (certified EU regulation 2092/91).
We were advised to use this when we changed sheets and to include spraying the pillows and duvets.
We'll certainly take it on holiday with us as most hotel mattresses are never cleaned and can be very unhygienic. At £12.99 it gives peace of mind.

By chance we came across silk fibre filled duvets. Naturally hypoallergenic, said to create an atmosphere that is inhospitable to dust mites, they feel warm in winter, cooler in warmer weather. Ideal too for those who dislike having heavy bedclothes on them.
The Khotan duvet is available in 9 and 13.5 tog ratings, prices range from £130 for a single to £260 for a super king size.
The 4.5 tog Xi'an duvet range from £100 to £135.
